Modern Education ~ Traditional Values
FKS is a proprietorial co-educational school originally founded in 1957 by Mrs Ida Lipman. The school was originally based in the Memorial Hall in Felsted with just nineteen pupils. As FKS grew it moved to Great Dunmow and was known as Mrs Lipman's Schools. Continued expansion brought it back to the village of Felsted, moving to the site of Andrews House - going under the name of Felsted Kindergarten School. As the school continued to grow, it was decided to educate children up to the age of 11 and a second site of Edwards House was purchased to accommodate this change. The school has remained in the ownership of the family with Mrs Lipman's daughter, Miss Valerie Lipman, as the present owner. Miss Lipman has continued to develop and improve the school whilst retaining the caring family ethos in which the qualities of friendship, kindness, good manners and respect for others are fostered.
Today, the school successfully operates out of both Houses under the banner of FKS School. Andrews House is an older, listed building which caters for children from the early years stage up to the end of Year 2. Andrews is very much a home from home and the children enjoy sound education in small groups from friendly, caring staff. Edwards House is to be found at the opposite end of the High Street and is a more modern building catering for the Key Stage 2 age group from Year 3 to Year 6. Here, children are prepared for secondary education and the school is proud of its excellent record of places gained at both grammar and independent schools each year. FKS provides top quality, all round, affordable education maintaining traditional values in a friendly environment.
