Modern Education ~ Traditional Values
Music is an important part of the curriculum. Good singing techniques are fostered from the start. There is a choir, an orchestra a rock band and a lunchtime singing club currently at Edwards House. Year 2 entered the Songs of Praise School Choir of the Year 2010 and at Andrews House there are many opportunities to sing as well in music lessons as well as during the school day. In Andrews House children attend musicaltheatre lessons with a specialist teacher.
Children in Year 2 learn to play the Ocarina, a simple wind instrument and precursor of the recorder which pupils learn from Year 3 upwards. Many children have individual instrumental lessons. The children are given opportunities to play in assembly to develop their confidence.
Children in both houses are taught by a specialist drama teachers. All children in the school have opportunities to appear in dramatic productions, ranging from assemblies to large scale productions. From September 2012 Edwards House pupils (years 3-6) started working towards LAMDA organisation's examinations.
There are limited spaces available for pupils to take up individual music lessons in singing, keyboard, flute, clarinet or saxophone.
